Since I started blogging last year + thanks to Instagram, I have been asked countless times about my hair routine and the products I use. So for those who have asked this is for you. 🙂
Love is in the HAIR! No, but really…love for your hair in terms of care (seriously not trying to rhyme here) are crucial to how your strands look and feel.
Do you wash it every day? Love your straightener? Always getting highlights? (Etc. Etc. Etc.)
THATS OKAY! You just have to learn how to care for your personal hair type + the strain some of your styling habits cause. That being said, I want to clarify that I am in no way a professional. I just know that it took years for me to figure out the best + healthiest way to do my doo. From the summer of 05′ when I thought Sun-In was my power play, to having over two feet cut off (yep. that happened.) because I wanted a “new look”, I’ve done it all. So here we go!
P.S. You can shop all products below. 🙂
” What do you use to combat second day oil?”
Dove Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo | $5.99
Okay, so I LOVE dry shampoo. I was introduced to it in college by my roommate (Thanks LB!) and I’ve never looked back! Not only does it help with volume, but it literally eliminates oil and gives your scalp a refresh. I have tried tons of dry shampoos – the pricy, the name brand, the smell good. If it has come out over the last three years then I have tried it. My personal favorite is Dove Refresh + Care: Volume + Fullness. One of the top reasons I recommend Dove’s Dry Shampoo line is due to how soft it leaves my hair, you aren’t left with a chalky residue. It leaves my hair feeling light, clean and BIG, which I love. (Blame it on my Dallas roots.) It also smells so fresh, so clean.
My how-to: I use my dry shampoo at night for maximum results. This helps the dry shampoo successfully soak into the hair overnight and leave you with fresh hair in the morning. I typically hold the can about a foot away from my scalp and begin to spray. I flip my hair in every way possible during the application process. I then throw my hair in a bun and hit the sheets.
“Is your hair naturally wavy? If so, what do you use to tame frizz?”
Oribe Women’s Supershine Moisturizing Cream | $52
Yes! My hair is naturally wavy, living in Louisiana really challenges products that claim to combat frizz. My weapon against the frizz is MOISTURE. MOISTURE. MOISTURE. Pretty much every product I use provides moisture. My go-to product is Oribe’s Super Shine Moisturizing Cream, it smells AMAZING and feels like silk to the touch. I found that it is light enough to not weigh down my natural waves and texture. Though it is one of the pricier products I use, I believe it to be worth it.
My how-to: I typically use this product right after washing, while still damp. I want to go ahead and say that I DO NOT use my hairdryer. Heat for me is a big no no, it dries your hair out and causes damage. (No thank you) I use my Aquis Lisse hair towel, which helps with combating frizz as well.
“Do you ever tease your hair? Do you use hair spray or dry shampoo?”
Oribe – Dry Texturizing Spray | $46
Why yes I do! Though not as much as I used to. I figured out as a freshman in college, hair spray will get the job done, but I HATE the coated feeling it leaves behind and it clogs pours. I noticed I would start to get tiny little bumps around my hairline when I used it for teasing. So I tried dry shampoo, but I noticed it would end up falling flat by the end of the day…and no one likes flat-hair days. My junior year I was introduced to Oribe’s Dry Shampoo. This stuff is a gift from the hair gods. It will hold your tease and leave your feeling clean.
My how-to: I piece my hair in several sections starting from the crown down. Think layers, my grandmother who was a hair model in the 50’s and 60’s taught me this trick. You separate your hair into sections, hod your hair out to the side, spray the roots and being teasing. It’s as simple as that!
“Do you have a favorite hairspray?”
Farouk Royal Treatment by CHI Ultimate Control Fast Drying Volume Shaping Spray | $30
My favorite hairspray is Chi Royal Treatment: Ultimate Control. It has a light feel on the hair, but a sturdy hold. Okay, the real reason it is my favorite is due to the smell. It smells like a high-end perfume from France.
“What shampoo/conditioner do you use?”
Framesi Color Lover Moisture Rich Shampoo + Conditioner | $19 each
I use Frames Color Lover Moisture Rich Shampoo and Conditioner. I naturally have dirty blonde hair, but I am a huge fan of highlights and lowlights for dimension. I only add color to the middle to ends of my hair though, and regularly get trims. Since I add blonde to my hair I make it a priority to use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to reduce split ends and damage.
“Do you believe in hair masks?”
WELLA Wella Enrich Moisturizing Treatment | $17
Ibelieve in hair masks with my whole heart. I use a hair mask every single Wednesday. Wednesday’s are my mid week pamper day. It give me something to look forward to during the week. My favorite hair mask is Wella’s Enrich for Thick hair. It smells good and leaves my hair feeling silky soft.
My how-to: I honestly just follow the instructions. I will wash my hair with the Framesi Shampoo and then condition with the hair mask while still damp. I leave it on 5 minutes and voilà!
“Do you use a wave/texturizing spray?”
Lush Sunny Day Anti-Static Hair Detangler | $20
I will only use a wave or texturizing spray on my hair if I am at the beach or lake. Lush’s Sunny Day Anti-Static Hair Detangler is my go-to. It keeps my waves natural, but the frizz down. I also love this product because of the violet and honey smell. All natural and paraben free.
My how-to: I just spray it as soon as I get out of the water, while wet and scrunch the ends of my hair.
